Imaging Services is improving the way state, municipal, and local governments retrieve and share information. Using innovative digital conversion techniques, Imaging Services is converting microfilm and paper documents into digital images which are more efficiently shared and accessed. To best protect and preserve our state's public records, Imaging Services incorporates microfilm services and security microfilm programs under the state’s Archives and Records Management divisions.
The Maine Semiquincentennial Commission was established in state law in 2023.

The Board reviews proposed records retention schedules and related policy issues for both Maine state government and local governments, including municipalities, counties, schools, and special districts; ensuring proper records management procedures and schedules are in place.
The Archives Advisory Board, established by Title 5, serves to advise the State Archivist in administering record retention and preservation requirements for state and local government.

The Maine State Archives, a bureau within the Department of Secretary of State, maintains approximately 100 million pages of official State records considered to be permanently valuable. These include bills introduced in the Legislature, Governor's Executive Council Reports, election returns, deeds to and from the State of Maine, maps from the Land Office, vital statistics prior to 1892, federal census records from Maine up to 1930, county court records dating back to the 1639, and military records through World War I, to list a few.
