Marine Patrol and Knox County Sheriff's Office Investigating Death in Cushing

Cushing - The Maine Marine Patrol and Knox County Sheriff's Office are investigating the death of Donald McBeth, 83, a resident of Vero Beach, Florida and a seasonal resident of Cushing, whose body was discovered yesterday on the shore near Gaunt Neck Road in Cushing. Marine Patrol was notified of the missing man at approximately 7:00 pm yesterday after he failed to attend a family gathering. Marine Patrol joined members of the Knox County Sheriff's Office, the Maine Warden Service, and other emergency response personnel in the search.

Public Notice of Federal Consistency Review - UNE Marine Science Center Pier

University of New England (UNE) proposes to utilize National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) funding to construct a permanent research pier on the Saco River at the Arthur P. Girard Marine Science Center at 11 Hills Beach Road in Biddeford, ME. The proposed activity includes a new access road, a 5,100-square-foot marine pier with 26 concrete filled steel pipe pilings, an 80-foot aluminum gangway, a total of 768 square feet of floating timber docks, a 320-square-foot covered outdoor classroom, and an 80-square-foot storage shed.

Scallop License Lotteries to Accept Applications Starting at Noon Today, September 30th

The Department of Marine Resources is announcing the annual lotteries for scallop drag and scallop dive licenses.   Based on licenses retired in 2023, the Department is making available 8 drag licenses (4 drag licenses will be awarded to individuals between the age of 18-30 and 4 scallop drag licenses awarded to individuals 31 years of age or older) and 5 dive licenses.  The Department will begin accepting appl
