Today’s Marine Patrol Officer (MPO) is a highly trained law enforcement professional who is certified by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.
Marine Patrol Officers conduct investigations and enforcement of Maine’s marine resource laws and regulations, as well as other laws within the jurisdiction of the State of Maine.
MPOs are also deputized as National Marine Fisheries Service Federal Enforcement Agents for the purposes of enforcing federal fisheries laws through Joint Enforcement Cooperative Agreements.
Marine Patrol Officers work out of their homes and are on call 24-hours a day while on duty. In addition, MPOs work weekends and at times are required to work extended hours. The hours and environment that officers must work in can be demanding and often challenging, however the rewards of this exciting career are substantial.
