Statement from Secretary of State Shenna Bellows on Maine Joining Lawsuit Opposing Unlawful Elections Executive Order

AUGUSTA, MAINE – Secretary of State Shenna Bellows issued the following statement in support of the multi-state litigation challenging President Trump’s Executive Order issued on Tuesday:

“Each time Donald Trump gets blocked in an attempt to control the outcome of the November Midterms, he just tries another tact. He fails in passing the SAVE Act, so he tries to change election law with a stroke of a sharpie. There is no question this executive order is unconstitutional – laughably so. There is also no question that it will be soundly defeated in court. 

Residents in Stockholm and Winn Can Now Renew Motor Vehicle Registrations Online

357 Maine municipalities now offer Rapid Renewal

AUGUSTA, Maine — Secretary of State Shenna Bellows today announced that the towns of Stockholm and Winn both launched Rapid Renewal this week. Rapid Renewal is the Department of the Secretary of State, Bureau of Motor Vehicle’s online service for renewing motor vehicle registrations.

AUGUSTA, MAINE – Secretary of State Shenna Bellows issued the following statement in response to Donald Trump signing an Executive Order today to create a nationwide list of verified eligible voters and illegally encroach on states’ rights to run elections:

“President Trump clearly didn’t get the copy of the Constitution I sent him. This Executive Order is laughably unconstitutional, and Maine is not going to obey in advance because the President isn’t in charge of elections, the states are.

State NVRA mailing sent to confirm voter eligibility

Registered voters who have not voted in past two federal elections asked to verify address

AUGUSTA, MAINE – The Secretary of State’s Office mailed postcards in January to 148,000 registered voters who did not cast ballots in the past two federal elections. The postcards are to verify the individual’s residency and eligibility to vote in Maine. The mailing is part of Maine’s routine maintenance of its voter lists under the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA).
