Maine Department of Marine Resources Launches Program to Improve Research and Support Species Recovery of Atlantic and Shortnose Sturgeon

Augusta - Atlantic sturgeon and shortnose sturgeon are two of Maine’s twelve species of sea-run fish that divide their time between fresh and salt water.  Atlantic sturgeon, which can grow to more than 13-feet long and live up to 60 years old, can be seen leaping in Maine’s large rivers and coastline in the summer months.

Notice to Harvesters: Maine-New Hampshire Inshore Trawl Survey to Begin April 28th

The Spring ME-NH trawl survey conducted by the State of Maine, Department of Marine Resources is scheduled to start April 28th, 2025, sampling between Portland, Maine and Portsmouth, New Hampshire, then working east to Lubec, Maine. The more information we have regarding our fisheries, the better equipped we are to defend these resources and your livelihoods. The ME-NH trawl survey provides valuable information for the management of important commercially harvested species.

Arlington, VA – One virtual public hearing has been scheduled to gather input on Draft Addendum XXXII to Amendment 3 to the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for American Lobster. The Draft Addendum considers repealing all Addendum XXVII measures pertaining to scheduled increases in gauge and escape vent size limits.
