AUGUSTA — Secretary of State Shenna Bellows applauds the Maine Attorney General Aaron M. Frey joining a coalition of 19 attorneys general in filing a lawsuit today over Executive Order No. 14248 (the Elections Executive Order). The order impacts both the Bureau of Corporation, Elections, and Commissions and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, both part of the Maine Secretary of State Department, through its attacks on data integrity in state systems.
“I’m proud that Attorney General Frey has joined this lawsuit against this unconstitutional Executive Order which only serves to disenfranchise voters and cause unnecessary fear regarding the security of our free and fair elections,” said Secretary Bellows. “The Executive Order is unconstitutional and illegal, and the policies in the order would make it harder for Americans to vote. I applaud Attorney General Frey for standing up for the integrity of Maine elections, which are a model for the rest of the nation.”
