Maine State Archives
Temporarily Relocated Due to Significant Repairs

The Cultural Building, which houses the Maine State Archives (MSA), Maine State Library (MSL), and Maine State Museum (MSM), is closed to the public for the foreseeable future to allow significant upgrades to the facility’s mechanical systems. The duration of the closure has yet to be determined but is likely to be at least a year. Learn more here and visit our website for updates.

MSA has been temporarily relocated to 17 Elkins Lane (Williams Pavillion). In order to keep our staff and patrons safe at this time, MSA is closed to the public. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.  Our staff is continuing our work of connecting the public with Maine's archival documents, so if you have a research query, please call us at 287-5790 or email maine.archives@maine.gov. Many documents are also available online, via the Maine State Archives Digital Maine repository and DigitalMaine Transcription Project, and genealogy information is available via the Archives’ collection on FamilySearch.

The Maine State Records Center, located at the BABLO building, is accessible to government agencies by appointment only. Requests can be submitted via email or by phone at 207-287-3627 and State Records Center staff will assist you.
