DMR staff and members of the Scallop Advisory Council are hosting a scallop fishery meeting scheduled for Thursday, June 4, 2026 at 4 p.m. at the Sorrento/Sullivan Recreation Center.
NOTE: This is not a regular scallop advisory council meeting but results of the discussions will be presented at the next SAC.
Starting at 4pm, the first topic for this workshop is safety and operations of the scallop dive sector. It is encouraged that all active scallop dive fishermen and tenders attend to share their experiences. Dive members of the scallop advisory council will host this section of the meeting.
The second half of this workshop will focus on scallop science and research happening in Maine state waters. Science members of the scallop advisory council will host and facilitate this discussion. Presentations will include results of this April's DMR scallop survey, the spat collection project along with additional updates on tagging, genetics, and scallop farming. We anticipate the science discussion starting around 5:30pm.
The goal of this workshop is two-fold: first, discussions from the dive sector will be reported out during the next SAC to inform the council on any changes needed for that fishery to make recommendations to the Commissioner prior to rule-making. And, second, conversations around the current scallop research is to allow scallop fishermen to share their observations, ask questions and suggest new ideas for research and possible research priorities to inform future scallop research projects.
