On Saturday, June 20, 2026, at approximately 12:48 AM, Troopers with the Northern Field Troop were contacted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, notifying State Police of a fatal motor vehicle crash on Charlotte Road in Charlotte.  

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, 40-year-old Robert Boggia Jr. of Whiting was pronounced deceased at the scene. After investigating what lead to the crash, Troopers learned Boggia had been at a bar in Calais where he threatened people with a firearm. Boggia fled from the bar prior to law enforcements arrival. Boggia was spotted on Route 1 in Calais driving a red corvette at an estimated 150 miles per hour. Baileyville PD attempted to catch up with the vehicle but were unsuccessful.

A Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy was on Charlotte Road when Boggia’s vehicle drove by the Deputy at a high rate of speed. The Deputy was unable to catch up with the vehicle until the Deputy came across the crash scene. Boggia was ejected from the vehicle and was located a significant distance from the crashed vehicle.

High speed was the largest contribution to the crash. Investigation into the events prior to the crash are ongoing, and toxicology results are pending a examination of the decedent. The Charlotte Road was closed around the crash area for several hours while Troopers documented and investigated the crash. The investigation is ongoing.

On Friday, June 19, 2026, at approximately 9:08 AM, Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 295 northbound near Forest Avenue in Portland.

The preliminary investigation indicates a commercial vehicle struck a 2007 Ford pickup truck after traffic slowed suddenly. Both vehicles became disabled in the travel lanes, resulting in significant traffic delays. Traffic was able to continue moving through the area using the breakdown lane. The male passenger in the pickup truck sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by the Portland Fire Department to Maine Medical Center in Portland. The driver of the commercial vehicle was not injured.

The pickup truck was towed from the scene by Southern Maine Towing. The commercial vehicle was able to be driven from the scene. The crash scene was cleared in approximately 1.25 hours.

A secondary two-vehicle crash occurred in the traffic backup near Hadlock Field. Minor injuries were reported, and both vehicles were driven from the scene.

On Saturday, June 13, 2026, at approximately 1:30 PM, Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash at mile marker 174, just north of the Exit 174 on-ramp in Newburgh.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the female operator was traveling northbound in the passing lane when the vehicle left the roadway and rolled over several times. The operator was not wearing a seatbelt and had to be extricated from the vehicle. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The operator has been identified as 58-year-old Darcel Geiser of Brewer. Assisting the Maine State Police were the Newburgh Fire Department, LifeFlight of Maine, MaineDOT, and Bouchard and Sons Towing. The crash remains under investigation.

On Thursday, June 4, 2026, members of Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit- South and the Portsmouth Police Department arrested 59-year-old Daniel Jolly of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in connection with the 1993 homicide of 73-year-old Maxine Bitomski of Kittery.

At approximately 6:13 AM Jolly was arrested in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, on a warrant charging him with Murder. Jolly was transported to the Rockingham County jail. He will remain in New Hampshire pending extradition proceedings.

On January 16, 1993, at approximately 3:24 PM, officers from the Kittery Police Department responded to 3 Colonial Road in Kittery after Bitomski was found deceased inside her home by family members. The Kittery Police Department immediately began investigating the circumstances surrounding her death and notified the Maine State Police shortly thereafter. Detectives from both agencies continued working the case over the next three decades.

On January 17, 1993, an autopsy was conducted by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta. The cause of death is not being released at this time pending the unsealing of court documents. The manner of death was determined to be homicide.

Investigators determined Jolly knew Bitomski through his employment with Medical Market, a medical supply company that was based in Portsmouth, New Hampshire that provided oxygen equipment and services to Bitomski prior to her death.

Beginning in 2021, the investigation was re-examined by Detectives assigned to Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit- South. Investigators continued pursuing leads, reviewing evidence, and utilizing advances in DNA testing that ultimately led to Jolly’s arrest.

“This arrest reflects the determination and commitment of investigators who never stopped working this case,” said Lt. Tom Pickering who oversees Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit- Unsolved. “The work completed by current and retired Maine State Police Detectives, members of the Maine State Police Crime Laboratory and the Kittery Police Department over the past 33 years was instrumental in bringing this case to this point.”

On Sunday, May 31, 2026, at approximately 5:54 PM, Maine State Police attempted to stop a stolen pickup truck on Route 25 in Limington for poor operation. The truck failed to stop and continued southbound on Route 25 into Standish.

The vehicle had been reported stolen from a residence in Limington approximately one hour earlier. The truck continued on Route 25 before turning northbound onto Route 113. The pursuit traveled through Baldwin and into Hiram, where spike mats were deployed and successfully disabled the vehicle.

The operator was identified as 33-year-old Shaun Webster of Limington. Webster was arrested and transported to the York County Jail. The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office and Sacopee Rescue assisted. Webster has been charged with Theft by Unauthorized Use, Failure to Stop for a Law Enforcement, Driving to Endanger, Operating Under the Influence, Aggravated Criminal Mischief, Criminal Trespass and Passing a Roadblock.

On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at approximately 6:00 PM, the Maine State Police, Southern Field Troop responded to an incident in Norway. The initial investigation indicates an Oxford Police Department Reserve Officer, 31-year-old Joe Correia of Norway was off duty and outside his vehicle when he was struck by a vehicle on Crocket Ridge Road in Norway. After being struck, a physical altercation occurred between the officer and the male suspect who was operating the other vehicle being driven by 29-year-old Michael Carleton of Paris. Carleton was eventually taken into custody and transported to the Oxford County Jail.  He was charged with Class A Aggravated Assault, Class C Reckless Conduct with Dangerous Weapon. Correia was transported to a local hospital where he is having surgery for non-life-threatening injuries. There is no threat to the public. The investigation is on-going.

On the evening of June 20, 2024, Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit-North Detectives responded to a shooting incident on Westmanland Road in Westmanland. As a result of the shooting, on June 22, 2024, 22-year-old Brandon Belanger of Presque Isle, died of his injuries. The case and circumstances remain under investigation by the Major Crimes Unit-North. There is no danger to the public. Additional information will be released when it’s appropriate to do so.

On Saturday, June 22, 2024, at approximately 12:12 PM, Troopers responded to the four-way intersection of Route 117 and Route 11 in Limington for a three-vehicle crash. Two vehicles were still in the roadway, and one struck the front porch of a house at the intersection. A Subaru Impreza and a Lexus RX300 were traveling in opposite directions on Route 11 and a Jeep Cherokee was traveling north on Route 117 when the crash occurred. The rear passenger in the Subaru Impreza, 32-year-old Casey Lubell of Ipswich, Massachusetts was pronounced dead on scene. Three other occupants in the Subaru Impreza were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Lexus RX300 was also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The circumstances which led to the crash are still under investigation. The road was shut down for approximately three hours. The State Police was assisted by Gorham PD, Limington Fire and Rescue, Hollis Fire and Rescue, and Standish Fire and Rescue.

On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at approximately 6:02 PM, the Augusta Regional Communications Center received a domestic violence complaint from a 70-year-old woman in Readfield. The woman told dispatchers her ex-husband 71-year-old Carl Hiebert of Belgrade had a firearm and assaulted her at her Morrill Road home. Also in the home at the time was the couple’s 41-year-old son who resides at the residence. Troopers arrived on scene and found the female victim in the driveway. She was safely removed from the location and treated by Winthrop Rescue. A perimeter was set up around the residence with the help of Troop G, Troop I and Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office. The son was able to remove himself from the residence and was unharmed. The Maine State Police Tactical Team and Crisis Negotiation Team responded to the residence and was able to take Hiebert into custody. Hiebert was arrested and charged with DV Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon, Reckless Conduct with a firearm and DV Assault. Hiebert was transported to the Kennebec County Correctional Facility.

On Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at approximately 9:00 PM, the Maine State Police Southern Field Troop, assisted by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 361 Sokokis Avenue in Limington for the two males that fled on foot from a June 14, 2024, crash on Sokokis Avenue after the vehicle they were driving struck a school bus. The two males were identified as 33-year-old Robert Hargis and his brother 30-year-old Patrick Hargis of Hiram. Troopers developed information that the brothers were staying at the Sokokis Ave address. After a search of the property, with the help of a K-9, the brothers were located hiding inside a wall in an upstairs bedroom. They were both taken into custody without incident and transported to the York County Jail.  Robert had nine active arrest warrants. Patrick had one and is also on probation. Patrick was charged with Felony Reckless Conduct with a Dangerous Weapon. He will also be charged with Operating After Suspension, Operating with Suspended Registration, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, three counts of Violating Conditions of Release
