On Friday, February 6, 2026, at approximately 2:44 PM, Maine State Police Troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash on Blue Hill Road in Surry. The initial investigation indicates that a 2015 Subaru Forester was traveling northbound when it crossed the center line for an unknown reason and struck two southbound vehicles, a 2018 Honda Fit and a 2024 Ram 2500.

The operator of the Subaru Forester sustained critical injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The operators of the other two vehicles were transported to a local hospital, where they were treated and later released. The deceased operator has been identified as 47-year-old Mark Nevells of Brooksville.

The crash remains under investigation.

On Monday, February 2, 2026, at approximately 11:15 PM, the Augusta Police Department responded to a shooting at a residence on Flagg Street in Augusta. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased adult male. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit – Central responded to assist with the investigation. The deceased was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy was conducted.  

The cause of death has been determined to be a gunshot wound, and the manner of death a homicide. The deceased has been identified as 51-year-old Billyjack Curtis of Augusta. There is no known danger to the public.

The investigation remains ongoing. Additional information will be released when it becomes appropriate to do so.

On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at approximately 9:28 PM, Deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Kennie Drive in Standish following a report of an altercation. Upon arrival, deputies located a deceased adult male at the residence. A second adult male was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit- South was called to the scene to assist with the investigation.

The deceased was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy was conducted. The cause of death has been determined to be a gunshot wound, and the manner of death a homicide.

The deceased has been identified as 23-year-old Thomas Foster of Porter. There is no danger to the public. The investigation remains ongoing.

Additional information will be released when it becomes appropriate to do so.

On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at approximately 9:28 PM, Deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Kennie Drive in Standish following a report of an altercation. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit- South was called to the scene to assist with the investigation. The deceased individual was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of death.

There is no danger to the public at this time. The investigation remains ongoing. Additional information will be released when it becomes appropriate to do so.

On January 16, 2026, the Hampden Police Department requested the assistance of the Maine State Police with an investigation related to locating missing 78-year-old Douglas Dunphy of Hampden. The Hampden Police Department had begun the investigation on January 15, 2026 2026. Due to the facts and circumstances of the case, the Maine State Police - Major Crimes Unit North was assigned to provide assistance to the Hampden Police Department.

Over the following weeks the Hampden Police Department, the Bangor Police Department, the Maine Warden Service and the Maine State Police - Major Crimes Unit North have been working in partnership to locate Douglas Dunphy. Regretfully, as of today, Thursday, February 5, 2026, Douglas Dunphy has not been located.

Due to the complexity of the investigation, the Hampden Police Department has agreed to allow the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit- North to take lead on the investigation moving forward. However, the Hampden Police Department will remain is support of on-going investigative efforts as a key partner.

This is an isolated incident with no ongoing public safety concerns. More information will be released as it becomes available.

On Monday, February 2, 2026, at approximately 3:40 PM, members of the Maine State Police Central Field Troop responded to a head-on collision on Route 3 in Vassalboro near Ritch Road.  The crash involved a Chevy Silverado pickup truck operated by 48-year-old Ryan Page of China, and a Ford F-650 commercial motor vehicle operated by 64-year-old Douglas Boivin of Jay.

The initial investigation indicates the operator of the pickup truck crossed the center line. The commercial motor vehicle operator steered to the right in an attempt to avoid the pickup truck but was unable to completely avoid it. Ryan Page succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Douglas Boivin was not injured.

A secondary crash occurred when a third vehicle swerved to avoid the pickup truck, which had come to rest in the roadway, and struck a guardrail. The driver reported minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation.

Troopers were assisted by MSP’s Traffic Safety Unit, MSP’s Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit, Vassalboro Fire and Rescue, Augusta Fire and Rescue, and Delta Ambulance.

On Monday, February 2, 2026, at approximately 11:15 PM, the Augusta Police Department responded to an incident on Flagg Street in Augusta. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased adult male. The circumstances surrounding the death are currently under investigation. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit – Central responded to assist with the investigation.

The deceased has been transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of death. At this time, there is no known threat to the public.

After a six-month long investigation, Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit- North Detectives facilitated an arrest warrant to be issued for 62-year-old James Cameron of Howland for four counts of Violation of Sex Offender Registration (Class D) and two counts of Prohibited Contact with a Minor (Class E). On January 28, 2026, Cameron was arrested in Howland by members of the Maine State Police Northern Field Troop and booked at the Penobscot County Jail.

Cameron had an initial appearance on January 30, 2026, at the Bangor Penobscot County Judicial Center. Cameron pleaded not guilty and was released on bail. James Cameron is scheduled back in court on March 3, 2026, at the Lincoln District Court. 

Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit-North was also assisted by the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, Department of Health and Human Services, and the Maine Sex Offender Registry (SOR) which is maintained by the Maine State Police, State Bureau of Identification (SBI).

On Saturday, January 24, 2026, at approximately 8:57 AM, the Fairfield Police Department received a 911 call about a male found on the side of the road and not breathing on the Martin Stream Road in Fairfield. Police responded and contacted the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit Central when it was determined that the male was deceased. 

State Police Detectives and Evidence Technicians responded and worked throughout the day conducting interviews and gathering evidence. The deceased male was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy will be conducted in the coming days. Detectives have identified the deceased as 46-year-old Jason Grant of Oakland. 

Anyone in the area of the Martin Stream Road in Fairfield and/or Norridgewock Friday night or early Saturday morning and may have information that could assist investigators is requested to contact the Maine State Police at 207-624-7076.

On Thursday, January 22, 2026, at approximately 7:46 AM, Maine State Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence in Cross Lake Township. A woman reported that her boyfriend was making threats and damaging property at their residence. The woman left the residence prior to Troopers arriving.

Upon arrival, Troopers determined the man involved, 37-year-old Nicolas Dionne of Cross Lake Township remained inside the home and was refusing to come out. The Maine State Police Tactical Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were activated and responded to the scene. After several hours of communication, Dionne exited the residence and was taken into custody without incident at approximately 8:00 PM.

Dionne was arrested and charged with Domestic Violence Criminal Threatening, Domestic Violence Terrorizing and Creating a Police Standoff. He was transported to the Aroostook County Jail.

No injuries were reported. The investigation remains ongoing. The Maine State Police were assisted at the scene by North Lakes Fire Department and ASI Ambulance Service.
