On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at approximately 9:38 PM, the Maine State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on I-95 at mile marker 131.5 northbound in Fairfield. A 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee was on its roof in the median when Troopers arrived and bystanders were helping the occupants of the crash. The passenger, 35-year-old Jimal Gerard of Rockland was able to crawl out of the vehicle to safety. He sustained minor injuries. The operator, 25-year-old Derrick Plowden of Rockland had to be extricated from the vehicle. Plowden was transported to Maine Medical Center where he is in stable but critical condition. Speed and suspected impairment are likely factors in the crash which remains under investigation.
