Updated Guidance for Power Mobility Devices (PMD

On June 4, 2024, the Office of MaineCare Services (OMS) sent an e-message with updated documentation guidance for PMD.  

Please note the following clarifications to this guidance:  

• POW was used to abbreviate Power Operated Wheelchair. For clarification, this equipment may also be referred to as Power Wheelchair or PWC. 

• Documentation for PMDs must indicate a member is able to safely transfer in and out of the PMD. This may include documentation to show the member has a caregiver that is both available and willing to assist them should the member not be able to safely transfer on their own.
