New Place of Service (POS) Code 27: Outreach Site/Street

On June 29, 2023, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the new POS code 27, that will be effective October 1, 2023. This POS code is for services that are provided on the street to people who are unhoused or experiencing homelessness. CMS defines POS code 27 as: A non-permanent location on the street or found environment, not described by any other POS code, where health professionals provide preventive, screening, diagnostic, and/or treatment services to unsheltered homeless individuals.
