Limited Availability of MaineCare Preferred Albuterol Products

Effective January 20, 2023, MaineCare added additional albuterol products with preferred status to our Preferred Drug List (PDL). These preferred products do not require prior authorization (PA): 

• ProAir Digihaler® (albuterol sulfate) Inhalation Powder 

• Albuterol HFA (albuterol sulfate) Inhalation Aerosol - TEVA (NDC 00093-3174-31) ONLY 

The following alternatives are also available as preferred products with no PA: 

• ProAir Respiclick® (albuterol sulfate) Inhalation Powder 

• Proventil® HFA (albuterol sulfate) Inhalation Aerosol 

• Ventolin® HFA (albuterol sulfate) Inhalation Aerosol 

We will continue to monitor the availability and net costs of this class of medications and periodically adjust the PDL as product inventories change and new cost-effective products become available. 

A PA detailing medical necessity is required to support the use of non-preferred products.
