Beware of scam calls and emails phishing for EBT card information: On April 8, 2025, we have received reports of scam calls and emails received by clients asking them to share their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card numbers. These cards contain a client's available SNAP, TANF, and State Supplement benefits. Our office will not call or email you to ask you for your EBT card number. Do not provide your EBT card number to anyone who calls you. OFI Eligibility staff are available to call Monday through Friday, 7:00AM to 4:00PM, at 1-855-797-4357. Clients who have opted into e-noticing will receive text message notifications from 844-789-7837. To activate cards and check balances, please call 1-800-477-7428 (the number on the back of your card). If you believe your card was used fraudulently, please call us at 1-866-348-1129 to report it.
If you have questions or concerns about your EBT account please call the number on the back of your card, (800) 477-7428, or the OFI Call Center even if you get a text or e-mail asking you to contact a different number.
The Office for Family Independence (OFI) Call Center is available from 7:00AM to 4:00PM, Monday through Friday, at 1 (855) 797-4357. Call Center representatives can assist you with getting a status update on your case, printing and mailing applications, renewals, and other documents, as well as updating your address and phone number or ordering new EBT or MaineCare cards. They can also assist you with OFI's online portal, My Maine Connection (MMC). OFI Eligibility staff are also available Monday through Friday, 7:00AM to 4:00PM, and the Call Center representative can transfer you as needed.
There are times where the Office for Family Independence may call you for more information or an interview. We recommend adding our number, 1 (855) 797-4357, to your contacts list to help prevent missing our call!

Filing Federal Individual Income Tax Through Direct File
Many Maine taxpayers will be able to file their Federal individual tax returns through IRS Direct File starting in January of 2025 for free.
Direct File may be a good option if you:
- Lived in Maine for all of 2024
- Earned all of your income in Maine in 2024
- Plan to use the same filing status (Single, Married Filing Jointly, or Head of Household) for both your federal and state tax return
Please note: you cannot use Direct File if you itemize your deductions.
After you file your federal taxes through the IRS Direct File program, you will be guided to the Maine electronic services web page where you will find the Maine electronic filing options including our own Maine Tax Portal.
Regardless of whether you file your Federal individual income taxes through Direct File, the Maine Tax Portal makes filing Maine state individual income taxes faster, easier, and more convenient and all for free. For more information visit the Maine Tax Portal website.
