The Maine Department of Environmental Protection (Maine DEP) does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, disability, age, or sex in administration of its programs or activities, and, Maine DEP does not intimidate or retaliate against any individual or group because they have exercised their rights to participate in actions protected, or oppose action prohibited, by 40 C.F.R. Parts 5 and 7, or for the purpose of interfering with such rights.
David Madore, Maine DEP Nondiscrimination Coordinator, is responsible for coordination of compliance efforts and receipt of inquiries concerning non-discrimination requirements implemented by 40 C.F.R. Parts 5 and 7 (Non-discrimination in Programs or Activities Receiving Federal Assistance from the Environmental Protection Agency), including Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended; Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; the Age Discrimination Act of 1975; Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972; and Section 13 of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act Amendments of 1972 (hereinafter referred to collectively as the federal non-discrimination laws).

Maine DEP complies with the following federal statutes and regulations available on the US EPA Federal Civil Rights Laws (Including Title VI) and EPA's Non-Discrimination Regulations webpage:
- 40 C.F.R. pt. 7, et seq., in which the United States Environmental Protection Agency implements the above listed acts and implementing regulations.
- 40 C.F.R. pt. 5, et seq. which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any activity receiving Federal financial assistance.
- Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 42 U.S.C. § 2000d, et seq. and all implementing regulations, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color or national origin;
- Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, 42 U.S.C. § 12101, et seq. and all implementing regulations, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability;
- Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, 29 U.S.C. § 701, et seq. and all implementing regulations, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance;
- Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, 20 U.S.C. ch. 38 and all implementing regulations, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any educational program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.
- Age Discrimination Act of 1975, 42 U.S.C. § 6101, et seq. and all implementing regulations, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of age in any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.
- Section 13 of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act Amendments of 1972, 33 U.S.C. § 1251, et seq. and all implementing regulations, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance under the Federal Water Pollution Control Act and the Environmental Assistance Act.
State Laws
DEP complies with the Maine Human Rights Act, 5 M.R.S. § 4551, et seq. and all implementing regulations, which prohibit discrimination in employment, housing or access to public accommodations on account of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, religion, ancestry or national origin, in education on account of sex, sexual orientation or physical or mental disability.
