Habitat
Found statewide in wetland habitats along streams, ponds, and rivers, they can also be seen in ocean bays. Mink are excellent swimmers that hunt the shoreline, often popping up on rocks and logs.
Diet
These carnivores eat fish, frogs, ducks, mice, muskrats, freshwater mussels, and insects.
Distinctive Characteristics
A slender weasel body, about two feet long, with sleek, dark brown fur, and a characteristic white chin.
Nocturnal/Diurnal
Mostly active during the dusk and predawn hours.
Reproduction & Family Structure
Mating happens during late winter/early spring with short delayed egg implantation, and four to nine kits are born in May.
