Attention MaineCare Members: Temporary Hold on MaineCare’s Payments to Some Providers of Health Care Services

On March 5, 2025,  MaineCare announced it does not currently have enough funding to pay providers in full through June 2025. This shortfall is due to the supplemental budget request for MaineCare expenses not yet approved by lawmakers with sufficient support. As a result, MaineCare will begin temporarily holding payments to some participating providers on March 12. If the necessary funds are authorized, MaineCare will be able to resume paying all providers in full.

What does this mean for me?

If you are a MaineCare member, you can keep seeing your provider. You are not responsible for paying for your MaineCare-covered services and your provider may not ask you to pay. You are only responsible for copayments if required for the service. You can learn more about required copayments here

What’s next?

The Department needs to have approval from lawmakers in order to use the money that the Governor has made available to pay providers for all MaineCare services through the end of June. Lawmakers from both parties need to work together to get enough votes so that MaineCare can start making full payments again as soon as possible. The Department urges them to act quickly to make sure providers get paid and members are still able to get the services they need.
