Winter Fun Days - Take It Outside 2024!

Join us for a day of winter fun for everyone! Activities include nature displays and a guided nature walk at 11:00 AM, a guided history tour, a winter camping display, ice skating – with skates on loan in the yurt, a warming fire in the yurt, S’more making over an outdoor fire, and coffee and hot cocoa while it lasts. Sliding and tote sled rides will be offered on Center Hill. The Maine State Parks Ski & Snowshoe trailer will be on-site at 299 Center Hill, loaning ski and snowshoe gear for on-site use free with special event park admission:12 & older $1.50. The winter event begins at the park with a 10 AM guided snowshoe hike with Maine naturalist Jeff Pengel. Also at park: Maine mammal display with furs, scat, and tracks; free snowshoe and xc-ski gear loans; a 1 PM snow-themed story hour followed by snow activities; a warming fire and hot cocoa; and at 6 PM a Night Sky program with expert James Shields at the top of Bradbury Mt. At Tryon Fields and Mountain*: Groomed sliding hill at the field - bring your own sled; 1 PM guided snowshoe hike with Maine naturalist Jeff Pengel. (*Park in the Tryon lot off Lawrence Road.) Join us for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, and skating (ski or walk in) along with warm refreshments and a fire. Ski and Snowshoe trailer will be loaning gear for free on-site use. Our annual Youth Ice Fishing Derby! Learn how to ice fish and compete for the biggest fish. Prizes will be awarded. Fish tip-ups will be on loan and instruction provided. A skating area will be set up on the lake. Warming area in the barn and hot cocoa and Wicked Joe coffee will be served while it lasts. Folks of all identities, abilities, and experience levels are welcome to join us for a day of fun and learning in the Maine outdoors! All instruction and gear will be provided. Activities include ice fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, guided birding and wildlife walks, campfire with smores, cocoa, and entertainment, door prizes, contests, and more!
