Troop E is responsible for Penobscot and Piscataquis counties and for patrolling the 107 miles of Interstate 95 from Newport to Sherman.
The troop consists of a Lieutenant, three Sergeants, three Corporals, and 14 Troopers, and a Secretary. Also working out of the Bangor barracks facility is Major Crimes Unit North, Computer Crimes, DPS RCC/PSAP and Fleet maintenance.
Troop E maintains an excellent long-standing cooperative resource coordination agreement with the Penobscot County Sheriff's Department. Within that relationship, Troop E troopers work daily with deputies. Penobscot County is divided into six rural patrol zones staffed by troopers and deputies, and two interstate zones. The southern interstate zone includes I-395. The interstate zones are always staffed by troopers. Troop E coordinates investigations and training with the Penobscot County Deputies.
Troopers are also assigned to numerous specialty units in addition to their patrol functions. Troop E has personnel assigned to the Bomb Team, Dive Team, K-9 Team, Evidence Response Team and as Drug Recognition Experts. Members of these teams assist state, county and municipal police agencies with their expertise in their given specialties. We also have Troopers who are certified instructors in Firearms and EVOC through the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.
Whether it is conducting a burglary investigation, or traffic enforcement, responding to a domestic violence complaint or speaking to a community group, the Troopers of Troop E strive, always, to provide the highest and most professional level of service possible in keeping with the core values of the Maine State Police.
