No Prior Authorization (PA) Needed for Insulin Used During Pregnancy

Effective February 21, 2022, no PA is needed for insulin used during pregnancy.

MaineCare will reimburse for Humulin and Novolin Neutral Protamine Hagedorn (NPH) insulin for pregnant patients without a PA when pregnancy is indicated on the prescription.

If you prescribe Humulin or Novolin NHP insulin to a patient who is pregnant, and the pharmacy refuses to fill the prescription or says that a PA is required, please call the Change Healthcare Provider Helpdesk at 1-888-420-9711.
