Effective October 18, 2021, Maine will be issuing the new Maine Lighthouse Trust specialty plate license plate.

Q: How much does the Maine Lighthouse Trust specialty plate cost?

A: The fee is $20.00 in addition to the regular registration fee when first purchasing the plates. Each renewal is an additional $15.00. There will be no reservation period and  low digit plates will not be available for issuance. The plates will be issued in a unique numbering sequence, beginning with 101-BFA through 999-BFZ (skip letters I and O).

Vanity plates are available in the Maine Lighthouse Trust specialty plate series with a maximum of six characters, plus one space or dash in the sequence. The fee is an additional $25.00 above the registration fee. The Maine Lighthouse Trust vanity plates cannot duplicate a vanity plate which has already been issued in another class of plate. You may search and order a vanity plate online.

Q: Where does the money go?

A: The proceeds from Maine Lighthouse Trust specialty plate will be credited to the Maine Lighthouse Trust to support lighthouse restoration and preservation efforts.

Q: Where can the Maine Lighthouse Trust specialty plates be purchased?

A: At all Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicle branch offices, the BMV main office and at many town offices. If the plates are not available in your town, they may be purchased at the nearest branch office or by mailing a copy of your registration and a check for $20.00 ($45 for vanity) made payable to the Secretary of State and mailed to: Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Specialty Plate Clerk, 29 State House Station, Augusta, Maine 04333-0029.
