Clearance/Verification Letters
Clearance/Verification letter: No Fee
When applying for a license in another state, a clearance/verification letter may be issued to individuals who at one time held a Maine Driver's License and have either lost their Maine issued Driver's License or have been asked to provide verification that the Maine Driver's License is in a valid status. Most states require the clearance/verification letter be less than 30 days old to be valid.
NOTE: Not all states accept clearance/verification letters
A letter can be obtained by calling or writing to the telephone/address indicated below.
Copy of restoration letter: $10.00 fee
Your request must be made in writing and include:
- Full name (as it appears on the Maine Driver's License);
- Current mailing address;
- Date of Birth;
- Drivers License Number or Social Security Number.
An additional fee of $2.00 is required to fax these documents. If you wish to have these documents faxed, please include a fax number with your request. Check or money order should be payable to: Secretary of State. Mail your request to:
