Statistics
The numbers below represent real people - family, friends and neighbors. It is the goal of the Department of the Secretary of State, along with its organ donation partners, to decrease the number of people waiting for a transplant.
You can help by adding your name to the Maine Organ Donor Registry.
In the United States in 2019:
- More than 113,000 people are waiting for an organ transplant.
- On average, 22 people die each day waiting for a transplant.
- Every 11 minutes a new name is added to the national waiting list.
