NEMTEC Virtual Classroom
This introductory course provides a foundational understanding of how clear, accurate, and timely communication supports effective emergency response. Participants will explore key principles of emergency messaging, examine real-world examples, and gain insight into how communication impacts public trust and outcomes. The course also introduces core concepts related to audience analysis, message development, and delivery strategies used by emergency management professionals.
Target Audience:
- Leadership and emergency management professionals who need to understand basic crisis communication to support or oversee communication efforts effectively.
- Individuals who have little to no formal training in public information or crisis communication.
- Individuals who have some familiarity or experience with PIO responsibilities but are still developing their skills or are in a supportive rather than primary role.
Eligibility: This is a priority seating course offering. All are welcome to apply. Enrollment is based on meeting the NEMTEC mission and ensuring adequate participation of the target audience.
Prerequisite: None.
Requirements: This is a VIRTUAL course offering. To participate in this course, you must have a computer with a functioning camera and microphone. This course requires a significant amount of group work and participation. Failure to have a functioning camera/mic may result in an inability to participate in, or complete, the course.
