The Maine Adult Education system provides adults with educational opportunities to acquire and improve their skills in reading, writing, mathematics, English language proficiency, and problem-solving to become self-sufficient and to participate effectively as productive workers, family members, and citizens.
The Adult Education and Family Literacy Act, enacted as Title II of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, is the principal source of federal support for adult basic and literacy education programs for adults who lack basic skills, a high school diploma, or proficiency in English.
AEFLA funds received from the US Department of Education (USDOE) support the implementation of this project. the project has an award totaling $5,248,029 of which 100% is federally funded and directly attributed to project implementation.
