Wildlife Research and Assessment Section
The Wildlife Research and Assessment Section is based in the Bangor office, where there are species specialists work on one, two, or a small group of species, such as moose, bear, deer or waterfowl. There are is a bird section, a mammal section, a habitat section, a RAI group and endangered species biologists.
The work conducted by this group is statewide in scope, but focused on distinct species. Staff in this section focus their work on monitoring and assessing wildlife populations and conducting a wide range of research projects; often in collaboration with the University of Maine. Together the Research and Assessment Section and The Wildlife Management Section make recommendations to the Commissioner for all our big game seasons, and bag limits.
