Virtual Reality for Pediatric Care is now here!

The Maine EMS for Children program is excited to share a new educational undertaking.  Virtual Reality!  The Maine EMSC program has 5 Oculus VR headsets that are used to run a pediatric assessment program.  Much like your smart phone, the oculus is the device, and Heath Scholars' Pediatric Emergency Assessment program is the app.  Users are immersed in an EMS call, seeing and hearing a variety of pediatric patients, and making assessments and clinical decisions.  We are initially partnering with Wells EMS, Bath Fire & Rescue and Rockland Fire & EMS Department, along with York Hospital, to roll out this education.  This will also be available statewide for Maine EMS services to have a training session (EMS service leaders can email marc.a.minkler@maine.gov for more info).  We are holding a press conference Tuesday July 13, 2021 at 10am at Wells EMS (114 Sanford Rd, Wells, ME) to showcase the partnership and the devices.  Stay tuned for more info!
