Like much of the country, Maine has seen a decrease in the number of hospitals able to support and offer inpatient OB services. Two hospitals (Waldo and Northern Light Inland), have or will soon end OB inpatient services. This brings the number of hospitals without OB inpatient services to 16 (of the 35 EDs that are 911 destinations) and includes:
- Bridgton Hospital
- Calais Community Hospital
- Maine General Medical Center - Thayer Campus
- Maine Health Maine Medical Center Sanford
- Millinocket Regional Hospital
- Northern Light Blue Hill Hospital
- Northern Light CA Dean Hospital
- Northern Light Inland Health
- Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital
- Northern Maine Medical Center
- Penobscot Valley Hospital
- Rumford Community Hospital
- St. Joseph Healthcare
- St. Mary's Regional Medical Center
- Waldo Hospital (effective 4/1/25)
- York Hospital
Maine EMS, the MDPB, and the Maine EMS for Children program have developed a bulletin (below) regarding considerations when transporting a pregnant or postpartum person. This can also be found on the Maine EMS Clinical and Operations Bulletins webpage. Additionally, this is a map of hospitals with and without OB services in Maine.
