Maine Medical Center and Southern Maine Health Care hospitals name changes effective June 1, 2024

Maine Medical Center (MMC) and Southern Maine Health Care (SMHC) are coming together under the Maine Medical Center license and name at midnight tonight (June 1, 2024).

The new names for the hospitals will also begin to be used.

  • MaineHealth Maine Medical Center Portland
  • MaineHealth Maine Medical Center Biddeford
  • MaineHealth Maine Medical Center Sanford

It will be important to always specify the location when referring to Maine Medical Center.

Maine Medical Center Portland remains the only Tertiary Care/Level 1 Trauma Center. There will be no changes to Emergency Services offered at MMC Portland, MMC Biddeford and MMC Sanford.

In addition, other locations such as campuses, health centers and services including:

  • MaineHealth Portland Campus
  • MaineHealth Brighton Campus
  • MaineHealth Biddeford Campus
  • MaineHealth Sanford Campus
  • MaineHealth Scarborough Campus
  • MaineHealth Goodall Health Center (formerly Goodall Medical Office Building)
  • MaineHealth Falmouth Health Center (5 Bucknam Rd., Falmouth)
  • MaineHealth Fernandez Health Center (9 Healthcare Drive, Biddeford)
  • MaineHealth Kennebunk Health Center (2 Livewell Drive, Kennebunk)
  • MaineHealth McGeachey Health Center (46 Barra Road, Biddeford)

In the coming months, other MaineHealth location names will change as ealier announced making it easier for patients to understand, find and access their care.
