Maine EMS and the MDPB is providing a clinical bulletin which addresses shortages caused by a possible lack of supply of some forms of midazolam. The bulletin discusses several alternate concentration preparations of the medication and discusses some nuances.
This is a result of recent shortages of injectable lorazepam which has forced higher-than-normal usage of alternate benzodiazepines and sedatives, notably midazolam. Though the shortage has essentially resolved, the downstream effects are being felt in supplies of midazolam and alternative medications and may last through the winter.
Remember to always check the concentrations of all medications and ensure the right dose, right concentration, and right route to the right patient at the right time for the right reason.
Please feel free to discuss this bulletin below (and can also be found on the Clinical and Operations Bulletins webpage) and distribute it as needed. If you have any questions, please contact Maine EMS.
