The MOOSE STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Math) Learning Progression is designed to deepen student understanding of science, technology, engineering, art and math topics while exploring how systems in our world are connected. STEAM modules allow students to develop and build upon the following skills:
- Obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information.
- Analyzing and interpreting data.
- Planning and carrying out investigations.
STEAM modules also give students a chance to deepen their understanding of:
- Patterns
- Cause and effect
- The influence of engineering, technology and science on society and the natural world.
Modules in the STEAM Progression are created around the theme “Designing for a Better World”.
- Designing for a Better World
- Systems & connections
- Patterns and cause-and-effect
- Investigation and evidence
- Data analysis and communication

Explore the Modules
PK-2 modules explore how living things anchor our world.
Grades 3-5 modules look at energy and how living things need and use energy to survive.
Grades 6-8 modules dig into resources and the connection between energy, living things, and utilization of resources.
Grades 9-12 modules tie systems together and remind students that systems are needed to support the energy and resources that living things need to survive.

The modules in this Learning Progression were made possible by a partnership with the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance.
