Effective February 18, 2022, MaineCare covers the use of varenicline and nicotine replacement therapies prescribed together for tobacco cessation and will cover prescriptions for both products for a member, regardless of the member’s prescription history.
MaineCare will reimburse providers for Humulin and Novolin Neutral Protamine Hagedorn (NPH) insulin for gestational diabetes without a PA when providers indicate pregnancy on the prescription.

Today, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) issued new MaineCare payment rates to nursing facilities, to be followed shortly by rates for residential care facilities (Private Non-Medical Institutions (PNMI), Appendix C), which increase funding by $12 million from January through June 2022. This includes the $4.5 million appropriated in the biennial budget for increasing rates, effective January 1, 2022, to support at least 125 percent of the minimum wage for direct care workers.
