TO PERFORM EMD IN MAINE, YOU MUST HAVE A CURRENT MAINE EMD LICENSE
AN EMD CERTIFICATE FROM IAED IS NOT A LICENSE!
If you have an expired EMD license
YOU CANNOT PERFORM EMERGENCY MEDICAL DISPATCHING!
The State of Maine requires a state license in order to perform EMS care in Maine. Affiliation with a licensed Maine EMD Center IS required, however residency in Maine is NOT required. This license is separate from any other state or IAED certification you may have. The State of Maine does not issue physical EMD license cards. You can download and print a copy of your license by logging into your eLicensing account. Maine EMS licenses expire at midnight on the last day of the month listed.
New licenses are issued based on current IAED certification.
To obtain a Maine EMD license:
- Create a new account near the bottom of the page at
- Log in to the account and complete an Emergency Medical Dispatcher - New Application
- Submit the application. We do not need a copy of your IAED certificate.
- Maine EMS will request confirmation of affiliation from your EMD center manager.
- Once all materials have been received, processing may take up to 10 days.
- Your expiration date of your Maine EMD license will be set to 90 days after your IAED expiration date.
- Maine requires you to maintain your IAED certification in addition to your Maine EMD license.
- You MUST maintain your Maine EMD license to provide Emergency Medical Dispatch.
