Prospective Zoning Plan for the Rangeley Lakes Region

Receive Rangeley Lakes Region Updates!

Revised February 21, 2023

As the result of a five-year planning process, the Prospective Zoning Plan for the Rangeley Lakes Region (the Plan or PZP) became effective on January 1, 2001. That plan and the companion rule revisions achieved several outcomes:

  • pre-identified areas within 10 minor civil divisions where the community intended to focus development;
  • Applied additional rezoning standards to allow the plan to work; and
  • Created additional development criteria for vegetative buffers, lighting, and dimensional requirements.

In 2022, the Commission reviewed development trends within the Plan Area and assessed how the plan has performed. Through the summer and fall of 2022, the Commission sought public comments on the report and feedback on next steps from the community. A summary report of the feedback received and recommendations for next steps were presented at the February 8, 2023, Commission meeting. The table below includes key documents and information about the review process.
