Library Services
Donated library materials are an important supplement to the MCC library collection. Per department policy and reasonable logistical considerations, the following criteria must be met for MCC to accept library donations.
- Nonfiction and reference materials must have been published within the past 15 years.
- Books must be in good condition, free of odors, water damage, excess dust, debris, mold and mildew, etc.
- Donors may drop off up to 5 manageable boxes of books per drop off.
- Donors should contact the facility librarian to coordinate a day to deliver donations.
- Due to the size and logistics of the current library collection, feedback cannot be provided on individual titles. All subjects, except prohibited materials, are a reasonable consideration for our library collection, assuming they meet the above criteria.
Donated materials which include prohibited materials, contain contraband, are dirty or in disrepair, are repetitive of current library holdings, or are rejected for any other reason may be disposed of by facility staff without notice to the donating party.

Chaplain Services
The Chaplain’s Office develops and coordinates religious services and programs to serve the diverse faith needs of the more than 600 residents at the Maine Correctional Center. With the help of area clergy and more than 100 trained volunteers, the chaplain seeks to provide religious and values based education, worship services, and faith exploration opportunities to nurture the growth of individuals and the flourishing of community. Programs and services are designed to assist participants in the practice of faith and in the integration of spirituality into daily life. The office also seeks to encourage dialogue among members of various faith traditions and to support therapeutic programs aimed at successful return to the community.
Every effort is made to honor the spiritual traditions of each resident and groups are convened for participant worship and study. When there are insufficient numbers to gather as a group, individuals are offered support and spiritual opportunities through one-on-one meetings with representatives of their faith tradition. The Chaplain’s Office typically coordinates services for Protestant and Catholic Christians, Jews, Muslims, Native Americans, Christian Scientists, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, Wiccans, and Odinists. When practitioners of other traditions are present, additional groups are initiated.
In addition to worship experiences and study groups, the chaplain provides opportunities for individual pastoral counseling, spiritual direction, and grief support. Concerts, guest speakers, educational forums, and films are also sponsored by the Chaplain’s Office. Professional courtesy clergy visits can be arranged through the chaplain.
