Public Announcement of Pilot Audit Amended Schedule

The Maine Secretary of State’s Division of Election Audits and Training will be conducting Maine’s first ever pilot of risk-limiting post-election audits in March.

The Division will be pilot auditing the November 2024 General Election results in State Representative Districts 17205583, and 90, and State Senate District 15. These audits will take place on March 14, March 17, and March 18. On March 11 through March 13, the Division will conduct ballot scanning and other processes to prepare for the audits.

All post-election audit processes will be open to the public and held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily at 45 Commerce Drive in Augusta in the Florian Room. The entrance for the room is at the main entrance towards State Police headquarters.

Legislation enacted in 2022 allows the Maine Secretary of State to conduct risk-limiting post-election audits beginning in January 2025. Risk-limiting audits are a best practice in post-election reconciliation and provide additional levels of assurance that originally reported election results were correct, and demonstrate Maine’s elections are fair, secure, and trustworthy.
