Department of the Secretary of State Releases 2025 State Calendar
AUGUSTA—The Department of the Secretary of State has released the 2025 State Calendar as required under state statute. The calendar is to be consulted by all state agencies, and whenever possible, to avoid scheduling meetings or public facing events on these days.
“Everyone, no matter who they are or what their religion, should be able to participate in events hosted by state government. That’s why I’m so proud of the work that Departmental staff and stakeholders did to create an inclusive calendar that reflects the diversity of our state,” said Secretary of State Shenna Bellows. “We are hopeful that annual publication of a state calendar with a broad range of religious holidays will help state agencies and the public in scheduling events to avoid conflicts and ensure our government is accessible to all.”
This calendar includes religious holidays that are celebrated by people in Maine; and involve practices that would make it difficult to attend work related meetings or events. This calendar does not establish new paid holidays for state employees or include religious holidays that are traditionally observed on weekends and evenings.
“As a legislator I know the importance of attending hearings and public events by elected officials and the public,” said Representative Laurie Osher “when I learned that such things were being scheduled on holidays such as Yom Kippur and Eid al-Fitr I wanted to find a way to make our work in Augusta accessible to those of all faiths”.
Many religious holidays are based on a lunar calendar (such as Jewish, Muslim and Hindu holidays). In these cases, the dates listed above are estimates that may change or may differ in different regions. We diligently researched and updated our holiday dates, however, if you find an error, please contact the Department of the Secretary of State at sos.office.gov.
