Portland, Kennebunk motor vehicle branch offices temporarily closed due to positive COVID-19 case
AUGUSTA—The Bureau of Motor Vehicles has temporarily closed its branch offices in Portland and Kennebunk, after one of the staff members who had worked at both locations this week has tested positive for COVID-19.
All coworkers and members of the public who interacted with this BMV employee have been contacted directly and notified of their potential exposure. The branches are being deep cleaned today.
“We are hopeful that our coworker has a swift and complete recovery,” said Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, “and we have acted immediately to close these branches for cleaning, to prevent the potential for further exposure of our staff and the public.”
In addition to responding to this positive case with the office closures and cleaning, the Bureau of Motor Vehicles continues to implement CDC-recommended sanitization and disease prevention measures at all offices, including distancing, wiping down customer-facing surfaces and use of physical barriers. Secretary Bellows has been in close communication with the Maine CDC.
The Kennebunk and Portland branches will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 19. All State offices are closed Monday, Jan. 18 for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Customers can seek to complete their motor vehicle transactions on Friday at other nearby branches, or online via https://www.maine.gov/sos/bmv/ .
