National Association of Secretaries of State names Secretary Dunlap regional vice president
AUGUSTA – The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) has inducted Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap as its Eastern Region Vice President, to serve a one-year term through July 2020. The association elected members to the Executive Board during the annual summer conference, which took place in Santa Fe, New Mexico June 30-July 3.
Secretary Dunlap has served on the NASS Executive Board during most of his tenure as Maine’s Secretary of State, previously holding the offices of president, treasurer and most recently as the Administrative Codes and Registers member-at-large; he is now reprising his role representing the Eastern Region.
“NASS is a valuable organization that helps our office stay informed about the federal landscape surrounding elections, state business services and archives,” said Secretary Dunlap. “The connections we have made with other secretaries and professional development opportunities provided by the association have proved invaluable in helping us to implement best practices here in the State of Maine, and I’m glad to have this opportunity to continue in a role on the NASS executive board.”
Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate was chosen as president of the association, which is the nation’s oldest non-partisan professional organization for state officials. NASS serves as a medium for the exchange of information between states and fosters cooperation in the development of public policy.
“Secretary Dunlap has a long, distinguished career serving the people of Maine,” said Secretary Pate. “I reached out to him because he brings a wealth of experience, knowledge and dedicated leadership to our team. I’m honored to serve with him on the NASS Executive Board.”
