Secretary Dunlap to review three candidate petition challenges

AUGUSTA – The Elections Division of the Bureau of Corporations, Elections and Commissions received three challenges of candidate nomination petitions by today’s 5 p.m. deadline. Any registered voter within the candidate’s district can file a challenge in writing to dispute the candidate’s qualification for the ballot.
Challenges filed by today’s deadline are for:

• Max Linn, candidate for U.S. Senate, submitted on behalf of David Boyer and the Eric Brakey for Senate campaign;
• Cody Blackburn, candidate for House District 125, submitted by Susan Thibodeau, district resident.
• Eric Brakey, candidate for U.S. Senate, submitted by Brad Littlefield, district resident.

The enclosed documents outline the grounds for each challenge. Per Maine law, http://legislature.maine.gov/statutes/21-A/title21-Asec356.html Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap is required to determine if the challenges are properly filed. If so, he must hold a challenge hearing on the challenges within 7 days and issue a ruling within 5 days thereafter to determine whether the candidate will be disqualified from appearing on the June 12, 2018 primary ballot.
