AUGUSTA – Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap has issued rulings in the challenge hearings regarding the candidate nomination petitions of Max Linn and Cody Blackburn.
- In the challenge of the petitions of Max Linn, candidate for U.S. Senate, submitted on behalf of David Boyer and the Eric Brakey for Senate campaign, Secretary Dunlap finds the challenge is not valid, and that the petition and consent form meet the legal requirements to allow Linn to appear on the June 12, 2018 Primary Election ballot.
- In the challenge of the petitions of Cody Blackburn, Libertarian candidate for House District 125, submitted by Susan Thibedeau, district resident, Secretary Dunlap finds the challenge is not valid, and that the petition and consent form meet the legal requirements to allow Blackburn to appear on the June 12, 2018 Primary Election ballot.
The hearing officers’ reports are enclosed.
The Elections Division of the Bureau of Corporations, Elections and Commissions hosted the challenge hearings on Thursday, March 29, with presentations from legal counsel and witnesses for the involved parties.
Per Maine law, a challenger or a candidate may appeal the decision of the Secretary of State by commencing an action in the Superior Court within five days of the decision.
