Secretary Dunlap to visit multiple polling places during State Primary Election

AUGUSTA ? Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap, Maine?s top election official, will be visiting polling places throughout the day on State Primary Election Day, Tuesday, June 14.

Secretary Dunlap will be observing the voting process and meeting with local election officials during his visits. He will be at the polls for about 15-20 minutes at each location, and will be available to speak to the press at each stop and throughout the day.

His schedule will be as follows:

• 7:30 a.m.: Old Town, Knights of Columbus Hall, 5 Gilman Falls Ave.
• 10:30 a.m.: Gardiner, Gardiner Area Boys & Girls Club, 14 Pray St.
• Noon: Portland, Merrill Auditorium Rehearsal Hall, 20 Myrtle St.
• 5:30 p.m.: Bangor, Cross Insurance Center, 515 Main St.

Voters statewide will be casting ballots on local issues such as municipal and school budgets, as well as choosing candidates to represent their political party in the November General Election. Those offices include: Representative to Congress (both districts), all 35 State Senate districts, all 151 State Representative districts, and the following county offices, which vary depending on the county: Judge of Probate, Register of Probate, County Treasurer, Register of Deeds, Sheriff, District Attorney and County Commissioner. 

?The world is run by the people who show up and vote, and no ballot issue is so minor that we should leave that part of our children?s future for someone else to decide,? said Dunlap.

Polls are open in most municipalities beginning between 6-10 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Dunlap is encouraging all eligible voters to cast their ballots, reminding them that Election Day voter registration is an option in Maine.
