Deadline is June 1 for non-party
candidates to submit signed petitions
AUGUSTA ? Petitions are due Wednesday, June 1 for all non-party candidates for Maine?s federal, state and county offices who seek to have their names appear on the Nov. 8 General Election ballot.
Candidates for office are required to circulate petitions to gather signatures from Maine voters, and the number of signatures varies depending on the office being sought.
Candidates who are not enrolled in one of Maine?s three recognized political parties ? Democratic, Green Independent or Republican ? have until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1 to file their petitions with the Department of the Secretary of State?s Bureau of Corporations, Elections and Commissions. A complete listing of all those who have successfully filed by the deadline will be updated at http://maine.gov/sos/cec/elec/upcoming/index.html later this week. These candidates? names will appear on the Nov. 8 General Election ballot for the respective offices they are seeking to fill.
