Deadline is today for
candidates to submit signed petitions
AUGUSTA ? Petitions are due today for all party candidates for Maine?s federal, state and county offices who seek to have their names appear on the June 14 Primary Election ballot.
Candidates for office are required to circulate petitions to gather signatures from Maine voters who are enrolled in the same party. The number of signatures varies depending on the office being sought.
Candidates enrolled in one of Maine?s three recognized political parties ? Democratic, Green Independent or Republican ? must file their petitions with the Department of the Secretary of State?s Bureau of Corporations, Elections and Commissions by 5 p.m. today, to be certified to appear on their party?s Primary Election ballot. A complete listing of all those who have filed will be updated this evening at http://maine.gov/sos/cec/elec/upcoming/index.html.
Non-party candidates, whose names will appear only on the General Election ballot on Tuesday, Nov. 8, must file their petitions on or before 5 p.m. on June 1.
Additional information on the State of Maine?s requirements for a candidate to gain access to the ballot can be found on the Maine Department of the Secretary of State website: http://maine.gov/sos/cec/elec/candidate/index.html.
