Ribbon cutting for Topsham Bureau of Motor Vehicle office slated for Monday

TOPSHAM ? The new location of the Topsham Bureau of Motor Vehicles office will be celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday.

Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap will visit the new office at 125B Main St. on Monday, March 16 at 10:30 a.m.

The branch office opened to the public at its new location on Monday, March 2. It was previously located at 49 Topsham Fair Mall Road.

?This is a great move for us,? said Dunlap. ?It will improve access to the services we offer for the public, and is not too far removed from where we?ve been for years.

?Our priority is always to provide safe, convenient access for Maine motorists to our branch locations. This new location will provide greater comfort for the public and our staff, and enhance our ability to provide excellent service.?

Dunlap will be joined for the ceremony by Deputy Secretary of State for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles Patty Morneault, Senior Section Manager for the BMV Central District Lucy Taylor, Director of Public Services Jennifer Pease and other BMV staff members. Also in attendance will be landlord Terry Gray and elected officials from the area, including Sen. Linda Baker, Rep. Denise Tepler, Rep. Jennifer Dechant and Rep. Brian Hobart.

The move is being made to provide for added visibility, and is in an area with less traffic congestion.?The Main Street location will allow for easier access, as well as designated parking for the public.?The new branch also has updated systems and is more energy efficient.

Wayne Russell is the manager of the Topsham branch, which had been at its previous location since December 1988. The branch phone number is 725-6520.
