Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap Encourages Citizens to Participate in June Primary Election
Online absentee ballot request service now available
AUGUSTA, Maine With the June 10, 2014 Primary Election a little over a month away, Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap reminds voters that it is easier than ever to become engaged and participate in our elections by using the Online Absentee Ballot Request Service. This Junes Primary is a candidate election with US Senate, US Congress, Governor, State Senate, State House, and a number of county offices on the ballot.
Maine law makes it easy to cast an absentee ballot. Citizens don't have to be out-of-town or have any other reason to take advantage of this easy way to vote at a time that is most convenient. Any Maine registered voter may submit an electronic absentee ballot request using the Online Absentee Ballot Request Service up to 3 business days prior to Election Day. After this deadline, a voter may request an absentee ballot only if the voter completes a Special Circumstances Application and indicates one of three allowable reasons to request an absentee ballot after this deadline.
The Service provides three ways to request an absentee ballot:
-
Completing and submitting their request form online;
-
Filling out the request form online, then printing and signing the completed form to mail to their municipal clerk; or,
-
Printing a blank request form to fill out by hand and deliver to their municipal clerk.
For more information about absentee voting, including the special circumstances application, please see our Absentee Voting Guide. Information about the Primary Election, including the list of candidates is available at our upcoming elections page
The deadline to request an absentee ballot online is June 5, 2014. Make sure you have a voice in your future - cast a ballot!
