Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap Introduces National Archivist

David Ferriero speaks about the General Henry Knox Museum’s namesake

Rockland- Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap will introduce National Archivist David S. Ferriero this evening to a presentation organized by the General Henry Knox Museum and taking place at the Strand Theater.  The Archivist is speaking on “Henry Knox, Annie Oakley, & Flying Saucers: Tales from the National Archives.”

The Honorable David S. Ferriero serves as the 10th Archivist of the United States and is responsible for providing guidance to the White House and the Executive Branch agencies and departments on the creation and maintenance of their records. It oversees the transfer to the National Archives of the permanently valuable records of the federal government and makes them available for study. These records include our Charters of Freedom -- the original Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights.  Previously, Mr. Ferriero was the Director of the New York Public Libraries.

?I am so pleased to have the opportunity to welcome Archivist Ferriero to Maine this evening and explore connections between Maine history and the National Archives,? said Secretary Dunlap.? ?As someone with an enormous amount of respect for the role of archives toward bringing history to life, I look forward to hearing David share historical anecdotes.? I hope we can share some tales from the Maine State Archives as well!?

The General Henry Knox Museum, which is presenting tonight’s lecture, strives to keep alive a knowledge and appreciation of the life and times of Knox.  Through the life of Henry Knox and his family, midcoast Maine history is uniquely intertwined with the history of the American Revolution and our founding fathers.
