The Honorable David S. Ferriero serves as the 10th Archivist of the United States and is responsible for providing guidance to the White House and the Executive Branch agencies and departments on the creation and maintenance of their records. It oversees the transfer to the National Archives of the permanently valuable records of the federal government and makes them available for study. These records include our Charters of Freedom -- the original Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights. Previously, Mr. Ferriero was the Director of the New York Public Libraries. ?I am so pleased to have the opportunity to welcome Archivist Ferriero to Maine this evening and explore connections between Maine history and the National Archives,? said Secretary Dunlap.? ?As someone with an enormous amount of respect for the role of archives toward bringing history to life, I look forward to hearing David share historical anecdotes.? I hope we can share some tales from the Maine State Archives as well!?
