Secretary of State Charles E. Summers Jr. Joins New England Organ Bank in Celebrating April as Donate Life Month in Maine
AUGUSTA – On Thursday, April 12, 2012, Secretary of State Charlie Summers will hold a press conference with New England Organ Bank at the State House in the Hall of Flags at 2:00 p.m. to present a proclamation designating April as Donate Life Month in Maine.
April is National Donate Life Month and is recognized as an opportunity to highlight education efforts, celebrate the lives saved and enhanced through donation and honor the donors who made the ultimate gift. Maine residents may become registered donors at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) when renewing or applying for a driver’s license or state identification card. Additionally, the Department of the Secretary of State has provided an easy way to register to donate online, 24-hours a day, 7-days a week with the Secretary of State’s Organ Donor Registry Online Service: https://www5.informe.org/cgi-bin/online/bmv/organ_donor/index.pl.
Additional attendees/speakers include State Senator Brian Langley, State Representative Ellis Espling, members of the Maine Advisory Council on Organ & Tissue Donation and Transplantation, Maine individuals personally touched by donation and New England Organ Bank.
New England Organ Bank is the federally-designated, non-profit procurement organization responsible for the surgical recovery of organs and tissues for transplant throughout the New England region. For more information visit http://www.neob.org/.
