Summers, Jr., administered the oath of office to Saco resident Thomas Arnold on Monday, appointing him Deputy Secretary of State for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles AUGUSTA, MAINE — Secretary of State Charles Summers administered the oath of office Monday to Thomas Arnold, of Saco, appointing him Deputy Secretary of State for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Arnold, a retired Maine State Trooper, has a public policy background. ?It is my pleasure to appoint Tom Arnold as Deputy Secretary of State for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles,? said Secretary Summers. ?He knows Title 29-A motor vehicle law front and back, and we are fortunate to have him.? Arnold, a retired Maine State Trooper, is a 27-year veteran of law enforcement. He held a supervisory roll in Troop G, with jurisdiction over the Maine Turnpike, for over 16 years. Arnold has extensive experience in criminal investigation; knowledge of motor vehicle law; and as a liaison between federal, state and local organizations. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Westfield State College and is a student of the University of Southern Maine’s Muskie School of Public Policy. Upon completion of his Capstone/Thesis, he will receive a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Management. Sen. Barry Hobbins, D-Saco and Rep. Linda Valentino, D-Saco, attended the swearing-in ceremony as Arnold is one of their constituents. ?It is an honor and privilege to have one of my constituents appointed by the Secretary of State as a Deputy Secretary of State,? stated Hobbins. ?Tom Arnold has all of the requisite experience being a former law enforcement officer, and a unique knowledge of motor vehicle laws of the State of Maine.? ?I?m extremely pleased that the Secretary of State has chosen an experienced person from Saco that we know and have a good working relationship with, to fill this position,? added Valentino. ?I?m sure he?ll do an excellent job.? Arnold replaces Catherine Curtis, who retired from State Government after a 32-year career at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. He is charged with oversight of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles programs and policy. ? |
